Baloch children targeted in violent crackdown by Pakistani forces: Rights group
A 10-year-old boy, Hasil Baloch, has reportedly been forcibly disappeared by the Pakistani military after being summoned to a camp in Jahoo Zeelag, Balochistan, according to the Paank Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement.
Paank accused Pakistani forces of increasingly targeting children during military operations. The group revealed that Hasil’s cousin, Hameed Baloch, was also abducted on July 16 and found dead five days later with bullet wounds. These incidents, it said, reveal a disturbing pattern of state violence in Balochistan.
“This enforced disappearance of a minor, especially after the extrajudicial killing of his cousin, raises grave concerns,” the rights body said, demanding Hasil’s immediate and safe recovery.
In a separate incident, 12-year-old Qamber Aslam was allegedly shot dead by Pakistan’s Frontier Corps on July 18 while on his way to plant onions near Kolwah. Qamber, a child agricultural laborer, was unarmed and working at a tube well when he was fatally shot in the chest.
“This brutal killing of a child laborer highlights a terrifying trend of violence against unarmed civilians,” Paank said, urging Pakistani authorities to launch a transparent investigation and hold perpetrators accountable.
The rights group also called on the international community to take urgent note of the “systematic targeting of Baloch civilians,” especially children, and demanded immediate action to address human rights abuses in the region.
