Baloch activist warns Trump: Pakistan misleading US on oil reserves in Balochistan

Prominent Baloch human rights activist Mir Yar Baloch has warned US President Donald Trump against trusting Pakistan’s claims over major oil reserves, asserting that the resources lie in Balochistan — not Punjab — and are being misrepresented by Pakistan’s military.

The statement came after Trump announced a new US-Pakistan agreement to develop “massive oil reserves” in the South Asian country. In an open letter, Mir Yar Baloch acknowledged the presence of valuable oil, gas, and mineral reserves but stated they are located in Balochistan — a region he called a historically sovereign nation now under illegal occupation by Pakistan.

“These resources do not belong to Punjab or the Pakistani state but to the Republic of Balochistan,” he wrote, warning that Pakistan’s claims are part of a strategy to misappropriate Baloch wealth.

He cautioned that allowing Pakistan’s military and its intelligence agency, the ISI — long accused of supporting terror groups — to exploit these resources would empower extremist networks and risk global security. “It would be a grave mistake to grant access to Balochistan’s trillion-dollar reserves to radicalised elements,” he said, linking it to past attacks like 9/11.

The activist stressed that profits from Balochistan’s resources would not aid local development but would instead fund jihadist proxies targeting India and Israel, further destabilising the region.

Declaring that “Balochistan is not for sale,” Mir Yar Baloch urged the US and global community to recognize the Baloch people’s right to self-determination and control over their natural resources.

He called for support in their continued struggle for sovereignty, emphasizing that exploitation without consent is both unjust and a threat to international peace.
