Blinken hails US-India partnership on Independence Day, emphasizes deepening ties

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken extended his congratulations to India on its 78th Independence Day, underscoring the strengthened bilateral cooperation between the United States and India in a statement released on Thursday.

“On this significant day, we honor the rich and diverse history of the Indian people and look forward to the bright future of US-India relations. Our comprehensive global and strategic partnership is built on the strong connections between our peoples and economies, and our shared commitment to democracy, freedom, and human dignity,” Blinken said.

He emphasized the growing collaboration between the two nations, noting, “We continue to work together to advance our mutual vision of a free, open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.”

Blinken added, “From climate and clean energy to defense and space technologies, US-India bilateral cooperation is more extensive and robust than ever. I wish everyone celebrating today in India, the United States, and around the world through the Indian diaspora a joyful Independence Day.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet with the Indian diaspora in New York next month during the United Nations summit. The meeting will celebrate the achievements of the Indian diaspora in the US and the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

PM Modi will be in New York for the UN summit from September 22 to 28, beginning with the ‘Summit of the Future.’ He is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 26.

India’s 78th Independence Day theme this year is “Viksit Bharat @ 2047,” reflecting the government’s goal to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi stated, “Viksit Bharat 2047 is not just a slogan; it embodies the resolve and dreams of 1.4 billion people.”
