BNP criticizes Bangladesh interim budget as non-inclusive and one-sided
Jun 4, 2025
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has slammed the 2025–26 budget proposals presented by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, calling it “unilateral, ineffective, and non-participatory.” BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the budget failed to reflect public opinion or include input from political parties, civil society, or experts.
Speaking at a press conference, Khosru criticized proposed tax hikes on education and online businesses, the lack of investor incentives, and continued spending on inefficient projects. He cited World Bank data showing a rise in poverty during the interim government’s tenure.
The BNP has renewed its call for national elections by December, urging broader political consensus.
