Cambodian PM to Attend ASEAN Summit in Laos Next Week

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will participate in the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos, from October 8 to 11, according to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His attendance comes at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. The summits will be held under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.”

The discussions will aim to further advance ASEAN Community building towards the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, while also strengthening relations with external partners through ASEAN-led mechanisms. The focus will be on improving connectivity and resilience in the region and addressing current and emerging challenges.

During the summits, Hun Manet is scheduled to participate in several side events, including the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), ASEAN Youth, and the second Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders’ Meeting.

The Prime Minister is also expected to engage in bilateral talks with various ASEAN and global leaders to strengthen bilateral relations.

ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
