Canada risks Pakistan-like fate by sheltering Khalistani terror groups: Report
Canada risks facing the same fate as Pakistan if it continues to provide a safe haven to Khalistani extremist groups, a report warned on Tuesday. The assessment argues that by allowing radical outfits such as Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) to operate freely, Ottawa not only undermines India’s sovereignty but also endangers its own long-term security.
According to the report published in Khalsa Vox, successive Canadian governments have ignored evidence of Khalistani activities, including videos, eyewitness accounts, and repeated complaints from India. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was accused of maintaining silence on terror-linked activities, and questions now turn to whether his successor, Mark Carney, will reverse course.
The report highlights how separatist groups routinely insult India’s national symbols and incite hatred against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders, all while enjoying impunity. Experts argue that this pattern mirrors Pakistan’s earlier state-backed support for militant groups, which eventually turned into a threat for Islamabad itself.
For the first time, Ottawa has acknowledged that Khalistani groups are active on Canadian soil and are involved in terror financing. A risk assessment report by Canada’s Finance Department revealed that such groups raise money through charity scams, drug trafficking, and vehicle theft. They also exploit crowdfunding platforms, non-profit organisations, and cryptocurrency to funnel funds.
The findings reinforce concerns that Canada is becoming a hub for extremist financing, with funds allegedly sourced from Sikh diaspora donations and illicit networks. Analysts warn that unless firm action is taken, Canada could find itself grappling with the same blowback Pakistan faces from groups it once nurtured.
