Charlie Kirk murder: FBI releases new video of suspect fleeing Utah campus rooftop
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released new video footage in the murder case of conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, showing the suspect fleeing the scene moments after the fatal shooting.
The video captures the suspect running across a rooftop at Utah Valley University before jumping off and disappearing into a wooded area. According to the FBI, the shooter used a high-powered rifle, left behind a firearm and ammunition, and escaped around noon local time on September 10.
“Trace evidence collected from the rooftop scene included shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. Anyone with information should call 1-800-FBI or visit fbi.gov/utahvalleyshooting,” the agency said.
The suspect, dressed in a long-sleeve black shirt, hat, sunglasses, and carrying a backpack, remains at large. DNA tests are being conducted on samples collected from the scene to aid identification.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox urged residents not to amplify online disinformation. “I think Charlie said it best, that when things get bad, we should put our phones down and spend time with our families. Our adversaries want violence,” he said.
Police have identified a “person of interest” and are pursuing over 200 tips from the public. The FBI has announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck while addressing a student event on campus and later died in hospital. As the co-founder of Turning Point USA, Kirk played a major role in mobilizing conservative youth across America, particularly in support of Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign.
