Delta plane flips on landing at Toronto airport, all 80 on board survive

A Delta plane flipped over on landing at Toronto Pearson Airport on February 17, 2025, but miraculously, all 80 people on board survived. The incident occurred during the flight’s arrival from Minneapolis amid strong gusts of wind and blowing snow.

The plane, a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR, skidded along the runway before flipping and coming to a halt upside down, losing its tail and one wing in the process. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, while passengers, some still strapped in their seats, managed to exit the plane and walk across the snowy tarmac.

Although 18 passengers were taken to the hospital with relatively minor injuries, none of the 80 individuals on board were killed. The crash’s cause remains under investigation, but experts have noted that harsh weather conditions and the plane’s design likely contributed to the crash’s survival outcome.

Toronto Pearson’s CEO, Deborah Flint, expressed relief that no fatalities occurred, praising the quick response from emergency crews. Meanwhile, aviation safety experts pointed to the CRJ-900’s resilience, with one stating that the aircraft’s robust design and safety features helped minimize the damage.

This incident marks the fourth major aviation mishap in North America in less than a month, underscoring the importance of continued safety measures and investigative work.
