Dubai Airport temporarily suspends flights after drone hits fuel tank

Flights at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended on Monday after a drone struck a fuel tank near the airport, triggering a fire and prompting emergency safety measures.

In a statement posted on X, airport authorities said operations were halted as a precaution to ensure passenger and staff safety.

“Flights at DXB are temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. Please contact your airlines for the latest flight updates,” the airport said.

Officials from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority advised travellers to check with their respective airlines for updates while authorities assess the situation.

A fire broke out near the airport after the drone hit a fuel tank, prompting a swift response from Dubai Civil Defence teams. Emergency crews were deployed to control the blaze and secure the surrounding area.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries had been reported and that safety protocols were activated immediately.

The incident also affected international flights. An Emirates flight bound for Dubai from Cochin International Airport was forced to return after taking off early Monday.

Airport officials said Flight EK533, which departed Kochi at 4:30 a.m. carrying 325 passengers and crew, turned back after Dubai airport suddenly halted operations.

Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Defence said six people have died in the country since the regional conflict began, including four civilians and two military personnel. The soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash that authorities attributed to a technical malfunction.

Authorities said further updates on airport operations would be issued through official channels as the situation develops.
