Egyptian president calls for Gaza ceasefire in meeting with US official

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday urged an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the delivery of humanitarian aid during a meeting with visiting US official Massad Boulos.

Boulos, a senior adviser on Africa and Middle Eastern affairs, met Sisi in Cairo to discuss ongoing developments in the Middle East and strategies to restore regional stability, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Sisi praised the joint mediation efforts of Egypt, the US, and Qatar, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to advancing ceasefire negotiations and ensuring aid reaches the besieged enclave, Xinhua news agency reported.

Boulos reiterated the US commitment to working with Egypt to restore calm and promote a resolution that serves all parties.

The meeting coincided with renewed indirect talks between Israel and Hamas in Doha. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israeli negotiators were in Doha to explore a potential deal aimed at ending hostilities, freeing 58 hostages, expelling Hamas militants, and disarming Gaza.
