Global protests, tributes for Pahalgam terror victims

Peaceful protests and prayer meetings continue across the world as members of the Indian diaspora express grief and solidarity with the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists and left several critically injured.

The deadly assault occurred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, near Pahalgam, when four heavily armed terrorists—two of them identified as Pakistan nationals—emerged from dense forest cover and indiscriminately opened fire on civilians. It has since been described as one of the most horrifying attacks in the region in recent years.

In Atlanta, USA, the Hindu Community of Georgia held a peaceful protest rally, joined by U.S. Congressman Rich McCormick. The gathering strongly condemned terrorism and called for global unity and justice for the victims.

In Madrid, Spain, the Indian community gathered at Plaza de Callao for a solidarity protest, denouncing the terror attack and calling for concerted global efforts to combat terrorism.

In Toronto, Canada, a tribute event was held at the Consulate General of India. “Innocent lives lost. Families shattered… the diaspora and friends of India stood united in tribute,” the Consulate posted on X.

In Chicago, around 200 members of various Indian associations convened at the National India Hub in Schaumburg, Illinois. The peaceful demonstration saw participation across regions, religions, and languages. Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh addressed the crowd during the emotionally charged event.

In Sweden, a floral tribute was held at the Indian Embassy, where the diaspora observed a moment of silence. The Embassy noted the unified resolve to defeat terrorist designs against India.

In New York, a solemn prayer service was organized at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Jackson Heights to remember and honour the victims.

These global gatherings underscore the widespread condemnation of the attack and reflect a united voice against terrorism targeting innocent civilians.
