Indian MPs wrap up Brazil visit, boost anti-terror partnership
A high-level Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor concluded a productive visit to Brazil before heading to the United States, as part of India’s diplomatic campaign under Operation Sindoor to strengthen global consensus against cross-border terrorism.
The visit, held from June 1 to 2, 2025, included meetings with senior Brazilian leaders including Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chief Adviser to the President Ambassador Celso Amorim, Acting Foreign Minister Maria Laura da Rocha, and key parliamentary leaders.
In these discussions, the delegation strongly condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and highlighted India’s bipartisan resolve against terrorism. Brazilian leaders expressed solidarity, with Vice President Alckmin affirming Brazil’s full support for India’s anti-terror efforts and voicing sympathy for the victims of the Pahalgam attack.
The delegation included MPs from multiple political parties—Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), GM Harish Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, and Tejasvi Surya (BJP), and former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. India’s Ambassador to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia, also accompanied them.
The talks also covered regional and global security, economic ties, and cultural exchanges. TDP MP Harish Balayogi highlighted Alckmin’s keen interest in Ayurveda, Yoga, and Indian culture, calling the meeting a key step in deepening the strategic partnership.
The Indian Embassy in Brazil expressed appreciation for the warm reception and meaningful dialogue. The Brazil stop is seen as a significant milestone in India’s outreach to reinforce international collaboration on counter-terrorism ahead of the delegation’s US visit.
