India Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating Security Situation in West Asia

India expressed its deep concern on Wednesday regarding the escalating security situation in West Asia, calling for “restraint by all concerned” and emphasizing the importance of civilian protection.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India reiterated its apprehension following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel on Tuesday night, although it did not specify any countries involved. The statement highlighted the need to prevent the conflict from widening regionally and urged for resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

Last week, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi about the geopolitical scenario during the BRICS meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York.

The MEA also issued a travel advisory for Indian citizens, recommending avoidance of non-essential travel to Iran due to the ongoing crisis. “We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region,” the advisory stated, urging Indian nationals in Iran to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

The advisory came in the wake of Iran firing approximately 200 missiles at Israel, with Tehran claiming the strikes targeted “military and security establishments” in Israel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that Iran is not a belligerent nation but will firmly defend its interests, urging caution to avoid conflict with Iran.

As Israel vows to retaliate, the situation in the region is expected to become increasingly tense.
