PM Modi, French President Macron discuss early end to Ukraine conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on recent efforts to end the Ukraine conflict. Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution and the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.

The two leaders had also spoken on August 21, coordinating their positions on Ukraine to push for a just and lasting peace.

“Had a very good conversation with President Macron. We reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on international and regional issues, including efforts for bringing an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. The India-France Strategic Partnership will continue to play a key role in fostering global peace and stability,” PM Modi shared on X.

They reviewed developments in economic, defence, science, technology, and space cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the India-France Strategic Partnership. This aligns with the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, the Indo-Pacific Roadmap, and the Defence Industrial Roadmap. Modi also thanked Macron for accepting the invitation to attend the AI Impact Summit in India in February 2026.

Macron, in his earlier August 21 post, had emphasized closer economic ties, support for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, and collaboration on AI ahead of India hosting the 2026 summit. Both leaders agreed to work closely in preparation for the French G7 presidency and India’s BRICS presidency in 2026.
