India strengthens anti-terror ties with Liberia during official visit

A multi-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde, has concluded a significant three-day official visit to Liberia, strengthening India’s global anti-terrorism outreach and deepening bilateral ties.

The visit, from May 31 to June 2, underscored India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and sought greater international cooperation in fighting global terror networks. The delegation included MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, Manan Kumar Mishra, Sasmit Patra, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, S.S. Ahluwalia, and former ambassador Sujan Chinoy.

During high-level meetings with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Senate President Pro-Tempore, and Liberia’s Foreign Minister, the delegation received strong support for India’s Operation Sindoor and its broader counter-terrorism strategy.

President Boakai reaffirmed Liberia’s solidarity with India and stressed the importance of global unity in combating terrorism. India also welcomed Liberia’s upcoming non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council (2026–27), highlighting the strategic role Liberia can play from this platform.

In a historic address, Dr Shinde became the first Indian MP to speak before the Liberian Senate, emphasizing the need for international consensus against cross-border terrorism.

The delegation also engaged with Liberian lawmakers, think tanks, and media, promoting cooperation on democratic values and shared goals of peace and security.

The visit follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam and is part of India’s broader diplomatic push to highlight Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism.

Both nations concluded the visit by pledging continued partnership for a peaceful and terror-free global order.
