India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, briefed a visiting 13-member Indian parliamentary delegation on the multi-faceted nature of India-UN relations and the country’s growing global engagement.
The delegation, led by BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari, met Ambassador Harish on Monday (local time) for discussions on India’s role within the UN system. Members include Rekha Sharma, Dilip Saikia, Bhola Singh, Saumitra Khan, Sandeep Pathak (AAP), Mithunreddy (YSRCP), P. Wilson (DMK), G.K. Ambassador Harish shared on X (formerly Twitter) that it was “a great opportunity for the Team Permanent Mission of India to learn from their perspectives,” adding that India’s Parliamentary democracy enriches UN deliberations.
The visit coincides with the UN’s observance of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and International Law Weeks, reflecting India’s commitment to inclusive multilateralism. “Confident that their leadership will help us represent India in the best manner possible,” Harish noted.
Purandeswari highlighted the diverse, cross-party composition of the delegation as a reflection of India’s democratic strength on the global stage. She also emphasized the symbolic connection of Harish’s Vijayawada roots with the delegation’s mission in New York.
During the visit, Ambassador Harish and the delegation paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the UN North Lawns, reaffirming Gandhi’s enduring message of peace, equality, and sustainable development.
