Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited the Fleet Headquarters and Maritime Operations Centre of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) on Saturday, as part of his official four-day visit to Japan aimed at enhancing maritime and strategic cooperation.
During his visit to the JMSDF’s operational nerve centre in Tokyo, Admiral Tripathi was briefed on the organisational structure, roles, and operational goals of Japan’s maritime force. The interaction paved the way for deeper mutual understanding and cooperation in maritime domain awareness and security.
The Indian Navy shared on X that the visit reflects shared interests and a commitment to enhancing strategic synergy between the two nations.
Earlier, Admiral Tripathi met Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani and discussed boosting bilateral defence cooperation, joint training, defence technology collaboration, and personnel exchanges. Both sides reaffirmed their shared resolve to address emerging security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
India’s Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, hosted a dinner in honour of the CNS, which was attended by Defence Minister Nakatani and JMSDF Chief of Staff Admiral Akira Saito.
Admiral Tripathi is also scheduled to meet Vice-Minister of Defence Masuda Kazuo and visit key JMSDF units, including a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief, Self-Defence Fleet, at Funakoshi Base.
The Indian Defence Ministry stated that this visit aligns with efforts to deepen the ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ between India and Japan, with a strong focus on maritime collaboration and regional stability.
