Indonesia to Launch Nuclear Agency This Year

Indonesia will establish the Nuclear Energy Program Implementation Organization (NEPIO) within this year, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The ministry plans to present NEPIO’s objectives, including the construction of a 250-megawatt nuclear power plant by 2032, to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna next week, reports Xinhua news agency.

“NEPIO will handle planning, oversight of construction, and regulatory development for the security and efficient operation of nuclear facilities,” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, on Monday.

Additionally, Harris, the head of the ministry’s Center for Survey and Testing of Electricity, revealed that Indonesia intends to produce uranium domestically.

The Southeast Asian nation is currently preparing the necessary infrastructure and developing human resources to support its nuclear energy initiative.
