Iran slams G7 for supporting Israel amid escalating conflict
Iran has strongly criticized the Group of Seven (G7) leaders for backing Israel in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, accusing them of ignoring what it calls “blatant aggression” by Israel and attacks on its peaceful nuclear infrastructure.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the G7’s joint statement, which described Iran as the “principal source of regional instability and terror.” The G7 leaders had gathered in Canada and called for de-escalation in the region while reaffirming Israel’s right to defend itself.
Baqaei, however, stated that Israel’s military strikes, including attacks on civilian areas and nuclear sites, violated international law, particularly Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against sovereign nations.
In a post on social media platform X, Baqaei urged UN Security Council (UNSC) permanent members to fulfill their legal and moral obligations by holding Israel accountable for its actions. He accused the G7 of issuing a “one-sided” statement that failed to recognize Israel’s role in escalating the conflict.
“The Security Council must act to stop the aggressor from committing further atrocities,” he said, adding that hundreds of Iranians have been killed and critical infrastructure, including hospitals and homes, has been destroyed.
Baqaei called the G7 statement an “unprecedented attack” on non-proliferation norms and said it undermines international protections afforded to non-nuclear states.
Meanwhile, the conflict has entered its fifth day, with missile strikes and air raids continuing across both Iran and Israel. Iranian missiles targeted Israeli cities like Haifa and the Golan Heights, prompting fresh Israeli military responses.
