Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian will embark on a two-day visit to Armenia and Belarus beginning Monday evening, with the aim of strengthening regional ties and enhancing economic cooperation.

The trip was confirmed by presidential advisor Mehdi Sanaei, who said Pezeshkian’s agenda includes boosting bilateral trade relations and signing cooperation agreements. The visit was initially planned for late June but had to be postponed.

Pezeshkian’s stop in Armenia comes at a critical moment, following the August 8 peace agreement signed in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The deal, which ended decades of conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, also included the creation of a transit corridor across southern Armenia, with exclusive development rights granted to the United States.

Iran has expressed concerns over foreign involvement in the Caucasus, warning against changes to the region’s geopolitical and historical boundaries. Tehran insists that regional disputes should be resolved locally without external interference.

In line with this position, Iranian foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate meetings this week with Russia’s special envoy Igor Khovaev and Armenia’s deputy foreign minister Vahan Kostanyan. Discussions centered on regional peace, unblocking transit routes, and safeguarding national sovereignty.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran and Russia share similar views on key regional and international issues, underlining the importance of continued consultations. He reiterated that while peace initiatives are welcome, they must avoid altering established borders or undermining the territorial integrity of regional states.

By prioritizing regional solutions, Iran aims to reinforce its influence in the Caucasus while countering the role of external actors. Pezeshkian’s upcoming visits to Armenia and Belarus are expected to further Tehran’s strategy of deepening cooperation with neighboring countries while maintaining a firm stance on regional security and sovereignty.
