Iran says deal with US possible if coercion stops

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that a deal with the United States is possible if Washington abandons coercive tactics toward Tehran.

Speaking during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized that a fundamental shift in the U.S. approach is necessary for progress in the ongoing indirect talks.

“Reaching an agreement with the United States is achievable,” he said. “However, it requires the American side to abandon coercion.”

Al Thani expressed Qatar’s support for Iran and said that coercive policies have historically failed, reaffirming Doha’s stance against pressure-based diplomacy, Xinhua reported.

In a separate meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Pezeshkian praised Oman’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the U.S., expressing hope for a fair and stabilizing agreement in West Asia.

Since April 12, Iran and the U.S. have held four rounds of indirect negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program and U.S. sanctions — three in Muscat and one in Rome — with Oman playing a key mediating role.
