Iranian and French Presidents Discuss Ceasefire Between Hezbollah and Israel

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and French President Emmanuel Macron have held discussions on measures to end the conflict between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel.

In a phone conversation, the leaders addressed the escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly in Lebanon, according to a statement from the Iranian President’s office released on Sunday.

Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s desire for a peaceful and stable West Asia, welcoming any proposals aimed at achieving a ceasefire. He urged President Macron and other European leaders to continue their efforts to compel Israel to halt its actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, which he characterized as “genocide and crimes.”

Macron, in response, called for a “general de-escalation” in both Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting Iran’s role in influencing destabilizing actors that it supports.

This conversation comes amid rising hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah since late September. On Sunday, Hezbollah reported a drone attack on an Israeli army base, resulting in the deaths of at least four soldiers and numerous injuries.

Simultaneously, the Israeli military has persisted with airstrikes on Lebanon, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting that the death toll from these strikes since October 8, 2023, has reached 2,306, alongside over 10,698 injuries.
