Israel and US Begin Implementation of $5.2 Billion Air Defense Aid Package
Israeli and US officials have commenced the implementation of a $5.2 billion emergency aid package aimed at strengthening Israel’s air defense capabilities.
The two sides have completed an exchange of letters to kick off the package, which will enhance Israel’s Iron Dome anti-rocket system, the David’s Sling missile defense system, and the Iron Beam laser defense system, according to a statement from the Israeli ministry.
This package is part of an $8.7 billion aid commitment Israel announced in late September, of which $3.5 billion has already been allocated for urgent wartime procurement.
The US has been a staunch supporter of Israel since the onset of the conflict with Hamas on October 7, providing hundreds of cargo planes and ships loaded with weapons, bombs, and ammunition, as reported by official Israeli sources.
However, the military aid has faced significant criticism amid ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in substantial casualties. According to the latest figures from Gaza-based health authorities, the Palestinian death toll from these attacks has surpassed 42,600.
