Jaishankar begins Europe visit to strengthen strategic partnerships
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has embarked on a key official visit to France, the European Union, and Belgium from June 8 to 14 to deepen India’s strategic partnerships across critical sectors.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit aims to strengthen cooperation in trade, green energy, digital technology, maritime security, and people-to-people exchanges.
In France, Jaishankar will meet Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and other top officials. The trip comes as India and France mark 25 years of strategic partnership. He will also attend the inaugural Mediterranean Raisina Dialogue in Marseille, a platform designed to expand India’s regional influence and strategic dialogue in the Mediterranean.
Jaishankar’s next stop will be Brussels, where he will hold a Strategic Dialogue with European Union High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas. He is also scheduled to meet senior leaders of the European Commission and European Parliament. The visit follows the EU College of Commissioners’ landmark visit to India in February, further solidifying India-EU ties.
In Belgium, Jaishankar will hold consultations with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot, with discussions expected to focus on trade, pharmaceutical collaboration, diamond sector ties, and green technology.
The minister will also engage with the Indian diaspora in Belgium, underlining India’s commitment to global Indian communities.
The MEA said the visit is expected to provide “renewed momentum” to India’s growing relationship with Europe, further aligning their interests in global peace, sustainability, and economic growth.
