Former President Joe Biden diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer

Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, his office confirmed in a statement.

The statement revealed that Biden, 82, had been experiencing increasing urinary symptoms and was seen for a new prostate nodule last week. On Friday, he was officially diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has a Gleason score of 9 (grade Group 5) and has metastasized to the bone.

Despite the aggressive nature of the disease, the statement indicated that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team.

Biden’s diagnosis comes as part of ongoing scrutiny regarding his health, especially given his age and tenure. He remains the oldest president in US history, having recently left office, making way for former President Donald Trump to return for a second term.

The announcement has drawn reactions of shock and sympathy from political figures across the aisle. President Trump expressed his support for Biden and his family on Truth Social, sending well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Democratic lawmaker Ro Khanna also shared his thoughts on X, offering prayers for Biden’s recovery and praising the resilience of both Biden and his wife, Jill.

Biden, who lost his son Beau to cancer in 2015, has since been a leading advocate for cancer research, initiating the “moonshot” cancer cure initiative first during his time as vice president and continuing into his presidency.
