Jordanian King and Italian PM Discuss Gaza and Lebanon Situations
King Abdullah II of Jordan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met in Aqaba on Friday to discuss strategies for de-escalating tensions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
During their discussions, they emphasized the urgency of achieving an immediate ceasefire, protecting civilians, and alleviating suffering in the affected areas, as reported by Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency.
The king highlighted the critical need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ensuring that relief and medical aid reach those in need, and reaffirmed support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
He also raised concerns about ongoing attacks by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, advocating for a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.
Additionally, the leaders discussed the importance of continued collaboration to enhance the response to the Syrian refugee crisis. Prime Minister Meloni expressed her appreciation for Jordan’s humanitarian efforts in supporting the people of Gaza.
