Pakistan issues 737 visas to Indian pilgrims for Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom anniversary

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi announced on Monday that it has issued 737 visas to Indian pilgrims to participate in commemorative events marking the martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Pakistan.

According to the High Commission, the visas have been granted for the annual religious pilgrimage scheduled from June 10 to June 19, 2026. The pilgrims will visit several historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan and take part in religious ceremonies associated with the observance of Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom day.

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) stated that 541 Sikh pilgrims received visas through its application process. The SGPC had submitted 561 passport applications to the Pakistan High Commission, of which 541 were approved, while 20 applicants were not granted visas.

Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Secretary of the SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee, said the pilgrimage group will depart from the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar on June 10 amid religious fervor. The pilgrims are scheduled to participate in the main martyrdom anniversary events on June 18 before returning to India on June 19.

During their stay, the devotees will pay obeisance at several revered Sikh religious sites, including historic gurdwaras associated with Sikh Gurus and significant events in Sikh history.

The pilgrimage is part of the long-standing religious exchange program between India and Pakistan that allows Sikh devotees to visit sacred sites located across the border.

Last year, thousands of Indian Sikh pilgrims were granted visas to visit Pakistan for Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Parv celebrations, including visits to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal.

The annual pilgrimage continues to serve as an important religious and cultural link for the global Sikh community.
