Three police officers killed, two injured in Pennsylvania shooting; suspect dead

A deadly shooting in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, left three police officers dead and two others critically injured on Wednesday afternoon, according to state officials. The suspect was also killed in the confrontation.

Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris confirmed the tragedy, noting that the officers were responding to a domestic-related investigation that began a day earlier. He declined to share further details about the case but emphasized that the gunfire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. local time.

Governor Josh Shapiro expressed deep sorrow, stating that the officers were carrying out their duty to protect citizens when they came under fire. “We grieve for the loss of life of three precious souls who served this county, this commonwealth, and this country,” Shapiro said.

The two wounded officers remain in critical but stable condition, officials confirmed. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspect or the slain officers, nor which agencies they represented.

Dramatic visuals from the scene showed one officer being airlifted by helicopter. In the immediate aftermath, the Spring Grove Area School District was briefly placed under a shelter-in-place order, though officials later clarified that students were safe and not directly affected.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the shooting as “a scourge on our society” and announced that federal agents are assisting state and local authorities in the ongoing investigation. Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis urged residents to keep the victims’ families in their prayers.

The incident has reignited concerns over the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. Investigations are ongoing, and officials have pledged to release further details as they become available.
