Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on ongoing efforts to bring a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict while reaffirming the strength of the India-France Strategic Partnership. Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for dialogue, diplomacy, and early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
Both leaders positively reviewed the progress made in bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors including defense, space, economy, science, and technology. They emphasized the importance of further strengthening ties under the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, the Indo-Pacific Roadmap, and the Defence Industrial Roadmap. Modi noted that the strategic partnership between India and France continues to play a key role in promoting global stability.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to President Macron for accepting India’s invitation to participate in the AI Impact Summit, scheduled for February 2026 in New Delhi. Macron, in turn, recalled the success of the AI Action Summit held in Paris earlier this year and emphasized the need for joint efforts in advancing safe and inclusive artificial intelligence frameworks.
During the conversation, Macron shared his assessment of recent consultations among European, American, and Ukrainian leaders in Washington, while also highlighting his perspectives on the situation in Gaza. He further reiterated France’s support for the early conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union, stressing that stronger economic ties would enhance sovereignty and independence for both partners.
Looking ahead, both leaders agreed to maintain close contact and cooperate in preparation for France’s presidency of the G7 and India’s presidency of BRICS in 2026, reaffirming their joint commitment to effective multilateralism and global peace.
