
Rishi Sunak praises PM Modi’s vision, calls UK-India ties vital
Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India, calling it “always exciting.”
Sunak, who met PM Modi along with his family in New Delhi on Tuesday evening, described the meeting as a wonderful opportunity to discuss various important subjects.
Taking to X, PM Modi shared his appreciation for Sunak, calling him a “great friend of India” who is passionate about strengthening India-UK relations.
“It was a delight to meet former UK PM, Mr. Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Mr. Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties,” PM Modi posted.
Sunak’s response and his vision for UK-India ties
Replying to PM Modi, Sunak emphasized the importance of UK-India relations and his admiration for the Indian leader’s vision.
“Wonderful to catch up with my friend Narendra Modi. Thank you for so warmly welcoming my family, too! Always exciting to hear your vision for India, and so important the UK-India relationship goes from strength to strength,” Sunak wrote on X.
Born to Indian parents with roots in Punjab, Sunak was the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of the UK, serving from 2022 to 2024. Throughout his tenure, he actively supported deeper economic, security, and scientific collaborations between India and the UK.
As the UK Prime Minister, he hailed India’s emergence as an ‘economic superpower’ and played a key role in fostering cooperation in finance, technology, healthcare, and education, including establishing the FinTech Bridge between London and Mumbai.
Sunak and Modi’s enduring friendship
Following Sunak’s defeat in the July 2024 UK general elections, PM Modi acknowledged his leadership and contributions in strengthening bilateral ties.
“Thank you Rishi Sunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future,” PM Modi posted on July 5, 2024.
Sunak also congratulated PM Modi on his third consecutive election victory, affirming that the UK-India partnership remains one of the closest friendships that will continue to thrive.
