India doesn’t seek conflict, only peace and security: Shashi Tharoor in Brazil
As part of India’s international outreach campaign, a cross-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor concluded a productive visit to Brazil, garnering strong support for India’s counter-terrorism position and Operation Sindoor.
In meetings with top Brazilian leaders including Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Foreign Affairs Committee heads, and senior officials, the delegation stressed India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and clarified its position following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Tharoor reaffirmed India’s peaceful intentions, saying, “We don’t want to recapture Pakistan or make it part of India again. We want to be left alone to grow in peace. But if attacked, India will respond decisively.”
He criticized Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism and said India would defend its citizens using all means if provoked. “Stop sending terrorists, dismantle terror infrastructure, and arrest the perpetrators — that’s the only path to peace,” Tharoor asserted.
Brazilian lawmakers and officials, including Senator Nelsinho Trad and Ambassador Celso Amorim, expressed solidarity with India and condemned the terror attack. Filipe Barros, President of Brazil’s Foreign Affairs Committee, proposed a joint declaration supporting India’s anti-terror efforts.
Vice President Alckmin said, “Brazil is proud to stand with India. We believe in peace and condemn terrorism in all its forms.”
The visit to Brazil is the latest leg of India’s global diplomatic campaign following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, aiming to expose Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism and build international consensus.
