Tharoor flags TRF claim, Pak role at funeral in Guyana
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is heading an Indian parliamentary delegation to Guyana under Operation Sindoor, highlighted Pakistan’s complicity in cross-border terrorism. He pointed out that The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, and uniformed Pakistani military and police personnel had attended a terrorist’s funeral — sharing a photo as evidence.
Tharoor said this during a legislative session in Georgetown, where Indian MPs voiced their strong stance against terrorism and reiterated India’s right to self-defense. The visit included a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and the SS Whitby memorial, marking the arrival of the first Indian indentured laborers to Guyana in 1838.
On Monday, the delegation met Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who hosted a dinner to celebrate the two countries’ friendship. The MPs also attended Guyana’s 59th Independence Day celebrations in Berbice, where President Ali announced national elections for September 1.
The delegation comprises leaders from several Indian political parties, including the BJP, Shiv Sena, JMM, LJP (Ram Vilas), and Telugu Desam Party, along with former Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
