US advises citizens in Pakistan to avoid conflict zones
The United States mission in Pakistan has issued a security alert urging American citizens to immediately leave areas near active conflict zones, following India’s targeted military strikes under Operation Sindoor.
The advisory was issued hours after India launched precision strikes on nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
“We are aware of reports of military strikes by India into Pakistan. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments,” the US Embassy said in its alert.
It reminded US citizens of the existing travel warnings, noting:
“US citizens are reminded of the ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory for areas near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control (LoC) due to terrorism and potential armed conflict.”
Earlier in March, the US Department of State had already advised citizens to “reconsider travel” to Pakistan due to risks of terrorism and instability. Specific warnings include:
- Do Not Travel to: Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including the former FATA regions
- Avoid: Areas near the India-Pakistan border and the LoC
Meanwhile, the Indian government clarified that Operation Sindoor was a restrained and calibrated military action.
“Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military assets were targeted,” the government stated.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated that the objective was to dismantle terror infrastructure while avoiding civilian harm or provocation. “Operation Sindoor was a proportionate and responsible response to Pakistan’s ongoing support for terrorism,” he said.
India also noted Pakistan’s refusal to act against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre, responding only with denials and counter-accusations.
