US Pro-Palestinian Group Declines to Endorse Harris Over Israel-Hamas War Concerns

A prominent pro-Palestinian organization in the United States has chosen not to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, citing concerns related to her stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The group expressed dissatisfaction with her approach and actions, emphasizing the need for a more supportive policy toward Palestinian rights in light of the current crisis.

The Uncommitted National Movement, a national pro-Palestinian organization in the United States, has announced that it will not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. Instead, the group will call for votes against former President Donald Trump.

Following a sit-in at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, movement leaders requested a meeting with Harris by September 15 to discuss the impact of US-supplied bombs on Palestinian American families in Michigan and to advocate for a halt to arms shipments to the Israeli government, as well as a permanent ceasefire. The group noted that Harris’s campaign has not addressed these requests.

The organization stated, “Vice President Harris’s unwillingness to change her stance on unconditional weapons policy or to clearly support existing U.S. and international human rights law has made it impossible for us to endorse her.”

The Uncommitted National Movement continues to push for policy changes to end the bombing in Gaza and halt U.S. support for Israeli military actions. While they won’t endorse Harris “at this time,” they oppose a Trump presidency, which they believe would worsen the situation in Gaza and suppress anti-war organizing.

Additionally, the group clarified that they do not recommend a third-party vote in the presidential election, emphasizing that such votes could unintentionally aid a Trump victory due to the electoral college system.

Originating in Michigan, where there is a significant Arab-American and Muslim population, the group gained traction during the Democratic presidential primaries, achieving over 700,000 uncommitted votes nationwide and bringing 30 uncommitted delegates to the Democratic National Convention last month.
