Yuki Bhambri savors US Open doubles run, inspired by India’s tennis legacy
Indian tennis ace Yuki Bhambri is relishing his journey at the US Open 2025, drawing strength from India’s sporting heritage while chasing his dream of a Grand Slam title.
Bhambri and his partner, New Zealand’s Michael Venus, seeded 14th, stormed into the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals on Monday, defeating Colombia’s Gonzalo Escobar and Mexico’s Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela 6-1, 7-5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.
Reflecting on the achievement, Bhambri said competing on the Grand Slam stage was always special. “India has a rich tennis legacy with icons like Vijay Amritraj, Ramesh Krishnan, Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Rohan Bopanna. Representing India at this level is a privilege, and I cherish every moment,” he remarked.
Currently ranked world No. 32 in doubles, Bhambri highlighted the motivation of striving for excellence. “Winning a Grand Slam is every player’s dream. Watching legends like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi inspired me to pick up a racket. I’m grateful to be here and hopeful of going further,” he said.
Offering advice to young players, he urged patience and passion: “Tennis is a long journey. Work hard, enjoy the process, and build a career step by step.”
Off the court, Bhambri revealed his love for cricket, especially the Indian team and IPL’s Mumbai franchise, saying it was his “first sporting love.”
Bhambri and Venus will next face Germany’s Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz in the round of 16, eyeing a deeper run in New York.
