Hasina accuses Yunus govt of turning Bangladesh into terrorism hub
Ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has accused the Mohammed Yunus-led interim government of transforming the country into a hub of terrorism and lawlessness. Hasina vowed to return to Bangladesh, promising justice for the families suffering under the regime and assuring accountability for the perpetrators.
Hasina criticized Yunus, the Nobel laureate, for admitting his lack of experience in running a government. She urged him to step down, accusing him of allowing lawlessness to reign, particularly after dozens of police officers were killed during student-led protests against her quota reforms last year. “Yunus has no experience in running a government. He dissolved all inquiry committees and unleashed terrorists to butcher people,” Hasina said. “They are destroying Bangladesh. We will oust this government of terrorists. Inshallah.”
Addressing Awami League supporters from India, Hasina reiterated that she would return and ensure justice for the victims. “The killers will face justice on Bangladeshi soil,” she declared.
Since her ouster following a coup in August 2024, Hasina has remained in hiding but is now reaching out to her party workers and supporters through online addresses. The interim government has resorted to extreme measures to stop her from rallying support, including submitting extradition requests to the Indian Government for Hasina’s return. Protests from student groups have intensified, with some even attacking the residence of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Yunus, speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, vowed not to allow key figures from the ousted regime to escape justice, emphasizing that the people of Bangladesh would not forgive his government if they fail to bring Hasina to trial. “We’ll bring her to justice. It has to happen, otherwise people will not forgive us,” Yunus stated.
