What began as a deeply personal mission rooted in resilience and a love for music has evolved into a meaningful community tradition. The annual ‘Dhadkan’ musical fundraiser once again brought the community together in support of the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Held on May 9, 2026, at The Avery Coonley School, this year’s edition carried special emotional significance. Dr. Dipak Shah, a respected dentist and long-time member of the Chicagoland Indian community, lived with Parkinson’s disease for nearly two decades. Known for his warmth, strength, and enduring spirit, he inspired many both professionally and personally. Following his passing, Dr. Sheela Shah has continued the Dhadkan tradition in his memory.
The evening featured a rich musical program led by Dr. Sheela Shah, joined by Chicagoland singer Rajesh Chalam and vocalist Manmeet Kaur. Their performances created a heartfelt and engaging atmosphere that resonated strongly with the audience.
The musical experience was elevated by live accompaniment from Orchestra SAREGAMA, with musicians Hitesh Master, Richard Christiansen, and Anand Nayak delivering a cohesive and polished performance. The program was smoothly anchored by Rajendra Shah, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the evening.
A strong community turnout reflected continued support for both the cause and the legacy behind the event. Organizers expressed gratitude to attendees and donors, noting that proceeds will support research, awareness, and care initiatives for individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease.
‘Dhadkan’ continues to stand as a tribute to perseverance, community spirit, and the power of music to inspire collective action, bringing the community closer to the shared goal of a world without Parkinson’s.
