The Foundation of Indian Americans New England marked America’s 250th anniversary of independence with a meaningful community celebration in Northborough, Massachusetts, bringing together hundreds of residents, veterans, elected officials, families and community leaders for an afternoon of patriotism, culture and civic engagement.

The event centered on the launch of FIA New England’s “250 Fruit-Bearing Trees Initiative,” a symbolic environmental legacy project in which each tree represents one year of American independence. The first tree was planted by 95-year-old United States Navy veteran Frank Brown, a longtime Northborough businessman and original owner of Brown’s TV. Brown was honored for his military service and decades of civic contribution, while fellow veterans Max Strickland and Richard B. Nieber were also recognized.

The program opened with the United States National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Preanshi Charnalia, with Jyoti Singh and Irena King serving as emcees. The celebration also featured cultural performances by the Ekta, Lana and Padmani Dance Group, patriotic music by Arun Verma, Priti and Arun Rashtogi, and a community meal prepared by Chef Hardayal Singh Ji. Children participated in a symbolic tribute marking 250 years of independence.

Massachusetts State Representative Kate Donaghue attended as chief guest, along with Dr. Anahita Dua, Bhrugu Pange, Ram Gupta, Subu Kota and Vicky Kota, Sandeep Asija, and Ravi and Sudha Sarin. The Office of Governor Maura Healey presented Citations of Special Recognition to Lana Israel and Kadian A. James for community service and leadership.

FIA New England President Abhishek Singh said the anniversary was not only a milestone, but also a reminder of the community’s responsibility to serve, give back and build a stronger future. The celebration reflected the Indian-American community’s commitment to honoring veterans, engaging youth, protecting the environment and strengthening the bonds of civic unity.
