ICCS seminar in Querétaro explores solar traditions and ancestral wisdom

The International Center for Cultural Studies organized a reflective seminar on Sunday, June 14, at Karuna Yoga in Querétaro, Mexico, bringing together elders, practitioners and community members for an afternoon of cultural exchange and spiritual dialogue.

Titled ‘Honoring the Sun: Ancestral Wisdom and Summer Solstice Traditions,’ the seminar explored the sacred significance of the Sun across diverse ancestral traditions. The event highlighted shared ideas of reverence for nature, cosmic cycles, spiritual consciousness and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.

The program opened with welcoming remarks by Sumit Jindal and Larissa, who emphasized the importance of preserving traditional knowledge and passing it on to future generations. They noted that such gatherings serve as a bridge between ancient wisdom and contemporary life, especially in a fast-paced modern world.

A key highlight was a presentation by Devesh Pandit from Chicagoland, who spoke on the significance of Surya in Sanatana Dharma. He explained the spiritual and cultural importance of honoring the Sun as a source of life, energy and divine consciousness. Pandit also discussed the daily practice of offering Arghya to Surya, the transformative value of Surya Namaskar and the many rituals and observances in Hindu tradition dedicated to the Sun. He said Surya is revered not only as a celestial body, but also as a symbol of vitality, discipline, illumination and spiritual awakening.

The discussion then moved to the Summer Solstice, with Abuelo Eduardo reflecting on the importance of natural cycles and seasonal transitions. He spoke about how traditional communities observed the movement of the Sun and integrated those patterns into agriculture, ceremonies and daily life. His remarks highlighted how ancestral societies maintained a deep awareness of cosmic rhythms and lived in harmony with nature.

She explored the relationship between the solar zenith and human consciousness, offering a perspective on how natural energies influence emotional balance, spiritual awareness and overall well-being. Her presentation underscored the connection between nature and human consciousness that remains central to many Indigenous traditions.

The seminar concluded with an open dialogue among participants, who reflected on common themes that emerged during the afternoon, including gratitude toward nature, respect for ancestral knowledge and the importance of living in balance with the natural world.

Participants described the gathering as meaningful and enriching, noting that many ancestral traditions share striking similarities in their reverence for the Sun despite cultural differences.

Organizers said the event strengthened relationships among elders, practitioners and community members in Querétaro while furthering ICCS’ mission of fostering dialogue among ancient traditions and promoting their relevance in contemporary society.

The International Center for Cultural Studies continues to support initiatives worldwide that encourage intercultural dialogue, preserve ancestral wisdom and build greater understanding among communities through shared heritage and spiritual values.
