Indian seniors of Chicago celebrate Hanuman Janmotsav with devotion and community spirit

The Indian Seniors of Chicago marked Hanuman Janmotsav with devotion and enthusiasm on April 11, 2026, at Mahalaxmi Hall, Manav Seva Mandir. Nearly 380 members attended the celebration, reflecting the organization’s strong sense of community, cultural pride, and togetherness.

The program began with a warm tribute to members celebrating birthdays in April. Pallaviben Darji and Nayanaben Darji presented flowers to the birthday honorees, adding a personal and festive touch to the gathering. This was followed by a collective recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

Health and wellness remained an important focus of the event. Dharambhai Punwani led an interactive laughter yoga session, sharing techniques to promote physical and mental well-being. He was later felicitated by ISC President Kantibhai K. Patel for his contribution.

Treasurer Hemant Modi presented the financial report for March, covering income, expenditures, and donor acknowledgments. Professor Sharad Shah spoke about the religious and historical significance of Hanuman Janmotsav, highlighting Lord Hanuman’s appearance on Chaitra Sud Poonam in the Treta Yuga and explaining verses from the Hanuman Chalisa composed by Goswami Tulsidas.

Arvindbhai Kotak also addressed the gathering on dementia awareness, outlining its effects on the brain and body and sharing preventive guidance.

During the event, President Kantibhai Patel announced the new executive committee for 2026, including Vice President Navinbhai Patel, Secretary Jayesh Shah, Joint Secretary Daksha Parikh, Treasurer Hemant Modi, Joint Treasurer Panna Shah, and Coordinator Bhupendra Suthar.

Members were also informed about upcoming community activities, including a Mother’s Day art exhibition in May, a picnic scheduled for July 12, and the annual ISC program on October 3.

A solemn moment was observed with a two-minute silence in memory of Mudrikaben Dave, wife of member Sureshbhai Dave, who passed away in a tragic house fire. Prayers were offered for Sureshbhai Dave’s recovery from injuries sustained in the incident.

The program concluded on a lighter note with humor and storytelling by Vishnubhai Mahadeswar, who entertained members with jokes in Hindi and Gujarati. Announcements were also made about a joint celebration of the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the 250th year of American independence, to be held on April 19, organized by the Indian Community of Niles.

The event ended with a community meal, leaving members with a sense of unity, reflection, and cultural pride.
