Members of Indian Seniors of Chicago celebrated Mother’s Day and Gujarat Day with devotion, music and community fellowship during a vibrant gathering held on Friday, May 9, at the Manav Seva Mandir hall in Bensenville near Chicago.
Around 380 members attended the celebration, which began with prayers and devotional songs led by members celebrating birthdays in May. Along with Geetaben Suthar, participants presented Ganesh Stuti, Sarva Dharma Prarthana, Hanuman Chalisa and the popular birthday song ‘Baar Baar Din Ye Aaye.’ Special guests Saroj Patel and Dahyabhai Patel greeted birthday celebrants with flower bouquets and best wishes.
The event also featured a yoga demonstration by Umaben Desai, promoting wellness and healthy living among seniors. ISC Treasurer Hemant Modi presented the organization’s April financial report and acknowledged donors supporting community activities.
Lunch and sweet sponsors were honored with garlands by ISC President Kantibhai Patel in recognition of their contributions. Gujarat Day celebrations included musical performances highlighting Gujarati culture and heritage.
As part of the Mother’s Day program, Pannaben Shah honored 12 women with roses and boxes of sweets. Adding an emotional touch to the event, Bhadra Shah performed the song ‘Janani Ni Jod Sakhi Nahi Jade Re Lol,’ which received warm appreciation from attendees.
Continuing an annual tradition, artwork created by 12 senior members was displayed during a special Mother’s Day art exhibition. The gathering also included an informational session on the ‘Vardan’ mobile app, designed to help seniors live independently and remain connected with doctors and family members during emergencies.
The event concluded with ISC Vice President Navinbhai Patel encouraging members to RSVP early for future events before attendees joined in a collective prayer, lunch and social interaction.
