Manav Seva Mandir rallies community support for temple renovation and renewal
By: Jayanti Oza
More than 400 devotees and community members attended a fundraising dinner hosted by Manav Seva Mandir (MSM) on October 10 to support the renovation of its existing temple building. The event highlighted the organization’s history, community service initiatives and plans to modernize its facilities for future generations.
The program began at 5:30 p.m. with a meet-and-greet session and dinner, followed by the ceremonial Deep Pragatya, or lighting of the traditional lamp. Chief guest Dr. Yogesh Oza and Bensenville Mayor Frank De Simone, who attended with his wife, were welcomed and honored with bouquets.
Mayor De Simone praised MSM’s community service, particularly its assistance in providing COVID-19 vaccination services to Village of Bensenville employees, and encouraged attendees to support the renovation project.
Dr. Oza, a retired physician who practiced for 35 years in Mount Vernon, Illinois, traveled from Austin, Texas, to attend the event. In his address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining Sanatan Dharma temples as centers for preserving religious traditions, cultural values and spiritual heritage.
MSM President Hitesh Desai and Chairman Jayram Patel outlined the organization’s vision, describing the temple as a place that brings families together through religious observances, cultural education, festivals and community activities.
Preserving a legacy of service
A historical slideshow traced the organization’s development. Manav Seva Mandir’s not-for-profit corporation was registered in 1983, inspired by Pandit Devendra Vijayji. Further inspiration came in 1984 from Rev. Pujya Shri Krishna Shankar Shastriji.
In December 1987, the organization purchased a former Korean church building at 101 South Church Road in Bensenville. The property has since served as a gathering place for worship and community activities.
Renovation plans outlined
The construction committee chairperson presented plans to modernize the existing building without adding new space. Proposed improvements include upgraded audiovisual equipment, modern lighting and other facility enhancements to support religious, cultural and community programs.
Dr. Bharat Barai and Dr. Shirish Shah discussed MSM’s charitable activities in the United States and India. They also presented financial information about the renovation initiative and encouraged devotees to contribute.
The Sweta Entertainment Group provided musical entertainment during the evening. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dahyabhai Prajapati, the board of trustees’ general secretary, who acknowledged those who contributed to the event.
The fundraising dinner brought community members together to support the renovation and help sustain the temple’s religious, cultural and charitable activities.
