More than 30,000 people attended the fourth annual Swadeshi Mela – Festival of India, held from Friday, September 11, through Sunday, September 13, at the Mall of India in Naperville. The three-day festival brought together Indian culture, food, music, shopping, entrepreneurship and community programming.

The event featured nearly 90 exhibitors representing businesses, food vendors, community organizations and cultural enterprises, creating a marketplace for Indian-owned and India-focused businesses to showcase their products and services to visitors from across the Chicagoland area.

Live entertainment was a major attraction. Friday featured Tollywood director and music composer Anup Rubens and his team, while Saturday included a performance by Rishi Singh, winner of Indian Idol 13. Bollywood filmmaker and Padma Shri recipient Madhur Bhandarkar attended as Guest of Honor. Sunday’s program featured performances by rock band Masalajamz and other artists.

The festival also included the Saree Shakti and Virasat fashion walks, children’s activities, yoga and meditation sessions, cultural performances and Indian regional cuisine.

Sewa International partnered with the event, with young volunteers participating in community-service activities. Representatives of the Consulate General of India in Chicago, elected officials and community leaders also attended.

Beyond entertainment, the Swadeshi Mela served as a platform for Indian culture and entrepreneurship, bringing together businesses, community organizations and thousands of visitors. Organizers credited volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors and community partners for the event’s success.

With attendance exceeding 30,000, the 2026 edition underscored the growing scale of Indian cultural and community events in the Naperville area and the wider Chicagoland region.
