Vivekananda Spiritual Center at HTGC continues to inspire Chicago community through weekly spiritual and cultural programs

The Vivekananda Spiritual Center (VSC), located within the sprawling campus of the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago (HTGC) in Lemont, continues to serve as a beacon of spirituality, education, meditation, and cultural enrichment for the Indian-American community and beyond.

Established in 2010 and inaugurated by globally renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Vivekananda Spiritual Center has grown into one of the Chicago area’s most respected platforms for spiritual learning and community engagement. Located at 10915 Lemont Road, Lemont, Illinois, the center remains open daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, welcoming devotees, families, youth, and seekers from all walks of life.

Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Sudha Rao, Chair of the Vivekananda Spiritual Center, VSC has significantly expanded its educational and spiritual outreach programs. Dr. Rao, widely respected as a spiritual and community leader in the Chicago area, has helped transform the center into a vibrant hub of weekly learning, devotion, meditation, and cultural exchange.

She is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and community leaders, including Mr. Amrish Mahajan, a highly respected Chicago business and community leader known for his long standing service and support of Indian cultural and spiritual initiatives.

The Vivekananda Spiritual Center regularly hosts:

• Spiritual and philosophical discourses
• Bhagavad Gita lectures and scriptural discussions
• Satsangs and devotional gatherings
• Public meditation and yoga sessions
• Cultural showcases featuring Indian classical music and dance
• Educational programs focused on personal growth and spirituality

The center’s Sunday educational functions have become increasingly popular among families and spiritual seekers looking for guidance, inner peace, and community connection in today’s fast-paced world.

Community members say the VSC has become much more than a spiritual venue — it is now a center for emotional healing, cultural continuity, youth engagement, and intergenerational learning.

“At a time when stress, isolation, and uncertainty affect so many lives, places like the Vivekananda Spiritual Center provide hope, wisdom, and a sense of belonging,” said one longtime devotee.

Inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the center continues to uphold values of universal harmony, service to humanity, self-realization, and spiritual awakening.

The Vivekananda Spiritual Center invites the entire community to participate in its upcoming programs and experience the richness of Indian spiritual traditions in an atmosphere of peace, devotion, and learning.
