Mamata Banerjee appeals to TMC cadre to remain alert during counting amid BJP surge
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday raised serious concerns over the ongoing vote-counting process, alleging irregularities and urging its counting agents and candidates to remain at counting centres and strong rooms.
In a statement attributed to party leadership, TMC claimed that the early rounds of counting were being presented in a manner that favored the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with its vote tallies being displayed first while those of TMC were delayed. The party further alleged that counting had been halted in several locations after initial rounds, raising questions about transparency.
Concerns were also expressed over reported discrepancies in electronic voting machines in Kalyani, where mismatched figures were allegedly identified. Additionally, TMC accused central security forces of excessive deployment and claimed instances of intimidation, vandalism, and attempts to take control of party offices.
The party maintained that it was leading in several constituencies but alleged that these trends were not being accurately reflected, with misleading information being circulated instead. It also questioned the role of the Election Commission of India, suggesting that the process lacked fairness.
Appealing to party workers and counting agents, TMC leadership urged them not to leave counting centres under any circumstances and to remain patient and vigilant. The statement emphasized that vote counting typically continues through multiple rounds and that early trends do not necessarily determine final outcomes.
The developments come amid heightened political tensions as counting progresses, with both major parties closely monitoring results across key constituencies. Authorities have yet to respond officially to the allegations.
