India to highlight clean energy achievements at G20 Energy Meeting in South Africa
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal will represent India at the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting, scheduled to be held in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, from October 7 to 10. The high-level meeting, hosted under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, will bring together energy leaders from the world’s major economies to discuss strategies for sustainable and secure global energy systems.
During the sessions on “Energy Security, Clean Cooking, Affordable and Reliable Access” and “Sustainable Industrial Development,” the Indian minister will highlight the country’s significant progress in renewable energy adoption under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India recently achieved the milestone of generating 50 per cent of its total power capacity from renewable sources — a major step ahead of global expectations.
The Power Minister will share India’s best practices in ensuring affordable and reliable energy access, particularly in rural and developing regions. He is expected to stress that achieving a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition requires strong global cooperation and equitable financing mechanisms.
Manohar Lal will also underline that developing countries face unique challenges, including resource and capacity constraints, and therefore require targeted support to meet climate and energy goals. India’s commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future aligns with its broader G20 vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” emphasizing inclusive growth and environmental stewardship.
The G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting and the accompanying Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) will serve as vital platforms for advancing collective action toward clean, secure, and equitable global energy systems.
India’s participation aims to strengthen international collaboration, reaffirming its position as a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable development.
