From Dehradun to starting a quant hedge fund in the U.S., Divyanshu Verma secures $4.3 million for VRC

From Dehradun to the fast-moving world of quantitative investing, Divyanshu Verma is emerging as one of the young Indian-origin quantitative professionals building a presence in the United States investment landscape.

A recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with a master’s degree in Computer Science, Verma recently launched Milwaukee-based hedge fund Verma Research Capital, securing investor commitments of $4.3 million. The firm focuses on quantitative trading, systematic investing, and long-term equity strategies driven by mathematical research, artificial intelligence, and data-driven models.

Before launching his firm, Verma served as Quant Portfolio Manager at the university’s Student Investment Club, where he managed a live $203,000 investment portfolio across multiple asset classes. During this time, he developed quantitative stock screening frameworks and led sessions on machine learning in finance, derivatives, options strategies, and risk management.

His growing profile in quantitative trading earned recognition when he ranked among the top traders in the United States during the Gelber Group Breakout Trading Competition in Chicago, finishing 13th nationally.

Beyond investing, Verma has been actively involved in quantitative research, authoring multiple research papers focused on market volatility, trading systems, derivatives, portfolio strategy, and data-driven investment frameworks. He has also authored a book on investing, reflecting his interest in combining research with practical market applications.

Verma has delivered lectures and presentations at institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Georgetown University, and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, speaking on topics such as quantitative investing, hedge funds, artificial intelligence in finance, and India’s economic growth trajectory.

With plans to expand operations across both India and the United States, Verma’s long-term vision is to build a globally competitive quantitative hedge fund at the intersection of technology, research, and strategic financial innovation.
