Football: AC Milan appoint Sergio Conceicao as head coach
AC Milan have announced the appointment of Sergio Conceicao as the head coach of the club on a contract valid until June 2026, following the sacking of Paulo Fonseca. “AC Milan announces that Sergio Paulo Marceneiro da Conceicao has been appointed as the Head Coach of the men’s First Team until 30 June 2026. The club extends a warm welcome to Sergio and his staff, wishing a journey full of success and fulfillment,” read the statement on AC Milan’s website.
The Portuguese coach arrives after a successful tenure at Porto, where he led the club from 2018 to 2024, winning three league titles and four Portuguese Cups during his seven-year stint.
Paulo Fonseca, who had taken charge of AC Milan at the start of the 2024-25 season, faced difficulties, with the team winning only half of the 24 games under his leadership. The team currently sits eighth in Serie A, behind rivals Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli. “AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of the Men’s First Team. The club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours,” the club said earlier on Monday.
After AC Milan’s 1-1 draw against Roma, Fonseca confirmed to the media that his time as head coach was over. “Yes, it’s true. I’m out. That’s life…I did everything I could,” Fonseca told reporters when he lowered his car window.
AC Milan’s next game will be against Juventus in the semifinals of the Supercoppa Italiana at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday (IST), followed by a Serie A clash against Cagliari on January 12.
