PM Modi Poised for Historic Visit to Kuwait, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Kuwait, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the West Asian country in over 43 years. The announcement follows an invitation extended by Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, who visited New Delhi last week and met with PM Modi. During their meeting, Al-Yahya described India as a “very important partner” and praised Modi as “one of the wisest persons” in the world. The visit is expected to enhance the strong partnership between India and Kuwait, which also holds the current presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Kuwait remains the only GCC member that PM Modi has not visited since taking office in 2014. A planned visit in 2022 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In September, PM Modi met Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the UNGA, underscoring the significance of bilateral ties and the strong people-to-people connections between the two countries. The two leaders discussed key areas of cooperation, including energy, food security, and the well-being of the Indian community in Kuwait.
The upcoming visit is expected to further strengthen ties between India and Kuwait, with a focus on deepening cooperation in various sectors, including security, stability, and economic collaboration.
