RSS Expresses Condolences on the Passing of S.M. Krishna, Praises His Legacy

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) expressed its condolences on the death of veteran politician S.M. Krishna, who passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness. In a statement, RSS leaders P. Vaman Shenoy and Dattatreya Hosabale praised Krishna for his statesmanship and significant contributions to Karnataka’s development. They highlighted his leadership as the former Chief Minister, External Affairs Minister, and Governor of Maharashtra, noting his simple personality and endearing nature.

The RSS described Krishna’s six-decade political career as a model of vision, leadership, and effective governance. They conveyed their deep sorrow, offering prayers for his family and supporters, and for his soul to rest in peace.

Several public figures, including Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, also mourned Krishna’s passing. Shivarajkumar recalled Krishna’s personal support during the kidnapping of his father, Dr. Rajkumar, by the forest brigand Veerappan, while Kiran Mazumdar Shaw praised his transformative policies that helped shape Bengaluru into a global tech hub.

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar expressed that Krishna was like a father figure to him, noting his monumental contributions to the state’s development, such as the establishment of Vikasa Soudha, Bengaluru’s international airport, and its metro train system. Shivakumar emphasized that Krishna’s legacy in state development, economic growth, and social welfare programs will continue to inspire future generations.

The final rites for S.M. Krishna will be held in his native Somanahalli with full state honors. A three-day mourning period has been declared, and public homage can be paid at his residence in Sadashivanagar until 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
